An Ancient Wisdom To Combat Modern Stress
Shiatsu is a Japanese bodywork/massage therapy which has its roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It's a blend of ancient massage, manual acupressure, and modern Western techniques of joint mobilisation.
Taking place on a futon or mat on the floor, a variety of these mentioned techniques are used to ease areas of tension.
According to the philosophy of traditional Chinese medicine, our energy or “ki” circulates throughout invisible pathways known as meridians. When imbalances occur in the flow of this energy - which often happens through illness, injury, stress, trauma, fatigue or poor lifestyle - our health and well-being may suffer. Shiatsu can help re-balance this energy. It can also be effective in maintaining overall health and well-being as it is thought to stimulate the body’s own healing natural healing system.
Benefits of Shiatsu
People come for a Shiatsu treatment for all sorts of reasons.
It can help alleviate physical symptoms and restore general well-being. Shiatsu can be effective for easing backache and neck/shoulder pain. Many people also come as a support when they are experiencing stress or other challenges, or healing from illness or injury.
However, Shiatsu is most effective when experienced regularly as it can maintain the healthy flow of "chi" in the body, necessary for general health, wellbeing & vitality.
Some other specific benefits may include:
Improved quality of sleep
Reduced overall physical tension
Improved digestive system
Relief from headaches
What to expect during a session
Shiatsu is given on a comfortable futon on the floor. No oils are used, and the receiver remains fully clothed in light and comfortable clothing. It is better received on an empty stomach.
People often feel a deep sense of relaxation following a session.
Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions - I am unable to provide one to one Shiatsu sessions at the moment.
